This year's edition of Expressions from MiraCosta College id dedicated to Leon Levy (February 6, 1942 - February 13,2011). Leon came to MiraCosta College in June of 1999 to fill the full-time position of Director, Community Services and Business Development. He retired from that position in October 2006. After a bit less than a full year, Leon decided that he was not ready for full-time retirement and returned to MiraCosta as a part-time faculty member with responsibility for coordination of several of the noncredit programs.
Leon embraced his new position with the enthusiasm he was known for at the college. He supported the faculty and students in his areas of responsibilites with unflagging dedication until his failing health made it no longer possible. As an artist, writer, and muscician, Leon appreciated the talents and struggles of the students who contribute to this publication. He understood the needs of the students with disabilities and the need for older adults to remain active both mentally and physically.
Leon developed new courses for Older Adults, including Art for Grandparents and The Impact of Radio on Our Lives. He supported the associate faculty in there efforts to revise courses of study and develop student learning outcomes. Always there to assist, he periodically filled in as a substitute teacher.
Those who knew Leon will remember him as a talented, kind, and caring individual with a quick wit and unfailing sence of humor. Because he was also a humble man, he would be both honored and amazed to have Expressions from MiraCosta College dedicated to him.
